Purchasing
a hot tub is a big investment, and you want to make sure you put it in
the perfect spot.
Depending on your situation, one of the biggest decisions you might have
to make is whether you want your hot tub located indoors or outside.
Each type of installation has its pros and cons.
Consider the following before deciding where to put your hot tub.
Most hot tubs are designed to be installed outdoors. If you want to
install your spa inside, remember that water is very heavy. A full tub
can weigh up to 3,000 pounds.
Indoor tubs need solid support and proper ventilation. Without good
ventilation, the steam from the tub can damage wood, paint, drywall, and
many other materials. If you want an indoor hot tub installation, you
should consult with a professional building contractor.
An outdoor hot tub also needs a firm foundation. The installation
surface should be as level as possible. Sod, soft dirt, rocks, and weeds
should be removed before building the foundation. The foundation should
be made of pea gravel and sand, concrete stepping stones, or
pressure-treated wood. A concrete slab, more costly but highly
desirable, offers a safe and solid foundation.
Have your tub installed with plenty of room around the perimeter. You'll
understand why when you have to take off the side panels for
maintenance.
Regardless of which type of installation you choose, a hot tub will do
wonders for your mind as well as your body. Properly installed, a hot
tub also adds value to your home.
